Infant Child of Prague
The Infant Jesus of Prague was originally created by a Spanish Princess as a wedding gift to her royal cousin. The statue of the infant holds a great deal of symbolism, including the globe held in his left hand, signifying that the Christ Child is King of the world. Reminding us that God is holding us in the palm of His hands. The right hand is extended in blessing with two fingers being raised. This symbolized the two natures of Christ, which the folded thumb and last two fingers touching one another represent the unity of the Blessed Trinity.
After being discarded and broken during a war, a Carmelite found the statue, fixed the hands, and placed it in a place of honor in the Carmelite Church in Prague. In 1637, as Father Cyril prayed before the Infant, it is said that the statue spoke to him SAYING “Have mercy on Me and I will have mercy on you. Give Me hands and I will give you peace. The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you.” Many miracles occurred through the intercession to the Divine Infant.
